Always a “Wifey”. Never a Wife

Ladies, I need you to stop giving away your goodness for free. I implore you; there are many jobs that you may be doing as a girlfriend that actually belongs to the list of wife responsibilities. Trust me. One of the biggest issues that come up in relationships is a woman confusing her place in her man’s life and feeling slighted when he reminds her. The term Girlfriend, Wifey and Wife are very different. Guys know this, but pretend like they don’t know and women go into this sort of happy trance when they hear the “WIFE” in “WIFEy.” It is used with the intentions of pacifying the girlfriend when she begins to question his fidelity and commitment in the relationship.

Society dangles the golden crown, the Holy Grail, the title “WIFE” over every woman’s head and then tricks us into thinking that relationships are an audition for the role of the wife, when we are actually just giving away the milk for free. This isn’t about sex. It’s possible to be celibate, in a relationship and still be giving too much away. Cooking his meals (a few nice ones here and there is fine, but a meal everyday? No.), cleaning his place, doing his laundry, and sharing a bank account are wife responsibilities. It is important to know the limits of what constitutes a good girlfriend and a good wife. If he comes home and expects dinner on the table, you should expect a ring on your finger.

This doesn’t mean you have to be cruel, simply explain that there are some things you will not do until you are a wife. Don’t fall for them calling your bluff and claiming you can’t do said duties. Cook them a meal, point out your clean clothes and let them see your tidy house. That’s all the proof he needs. I’d also suggest you begin to reconsider the relationship.

A wife gets the ring, a girlfriend gets some fidelity, a wifey is a term used to make a girl feel like she is more than she really is without the other person promising anything more to her.

This is just another important reminder that in relationships you need to watch your significant other’s actions over their words. Many times you will be told what you want to hear, but old habits and behaviors are hard to change. Don’t let anyone tell you that girlfriend and wives are one in the same. If they were, they’d have the same name (Girlwife? Wifefriend?). Don’t treat your boyfriend as your husband. He has not earned that right! Men respect what they work for and they are enticed by what they are left to wonder about.
